Tree Stump and Gravel Ground Texture After Land Clearing

After trees come down and brush gets cleared, what’s left underground can be just as much of a problem. Lindner Land Services provides grubbing services — the removal of stumps, root systems, and buried organic material — so your land is truly clear from the surface down.

WHAT IS GRUBBING?

What Grubbing Involves

Grubbing is the process of digging out and removing stumps, root balls, and subsurface debris after land clearing. When trees are removed, their root systems remain in the ground. Those roots and stumps need to come out before you can build, grade properly, or establish new vegetation.

Without grubbing, you risk unstable ground as organic material decomposes underground — which can cause settling, voids, and problems for any structures or paving placed on top.

WHY IT MATTERS

Why Grubbing Matters Before You Build or Grade

On a construction site, buried roots and stumps can create significant problems. As they decompose, the ground above can shift or settle unevenly. For paving, foundation work, or pasture seeding, you need soil that’s consistent and stable from the surface down. Grubbing takes care of that.

We frequently include grubbing as part of a full site prep process, but we also take on standalone grubbing jobs for properties that were previously cleared and still need the root work done.

THE PROCESS

How We Do It

We use excavating equipment to dig out stumps and roots down to an appropriate depth, then we remove or bury that material depending on the project requirements. Where material is removed, the area is filled and graded to blend with the surrounding ground.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is grubbing always necessary after land clearing?

It depends on what you’re doing with the land. If you’re building or paving, yes — you don’t want decomposing root material underground. If you’re reseeding for pasture, lighter grubbing may still be beneficial to remove large stumps. We can walk through what your project needs.

How deep do you go when grubbing?

That depends on the size of the trees that were removed and the end use of the land. Construction typically requires deeper removal than pasture restoration. We’ll assess what the project calls for.

Can you do grubbing on land that was cleared a while ago?

Yes. If stumps and roots are still in the ground from previous clearing, we can come in and handle it. The older the stumps, the more decomposed they may be, but they can still cause ground stability issues if left in place on a build site.

Do you remove the material from the property?

That depends on the scope and your preference. Some material gets buried on-site at appropriate depth, and some jobs call for hauling it out. We’ll work through the logistics with you during the estimate.
